Blah. I submitted this on dA. Hope you like it. 8D
- Spoiler:
- The heat of the glaring sun touched their skins that were uncovered by school uniforms. Chatter and laughing could be heard as children played in their groups. The children ignored the heat in the company of their friends; they smiled and talked about the latest craze that had swept through the school like wild fire.
A girl stood, staring down at the happenings at this ordinary school. Her straight, black hair was shoulder length and she was slightly taller than her fellow students. She didn’t like the heat that surrounded her bony body. It made her sweat, which also made her plain blue dress stick to her back.
She wiped the sweat that clung to her forehead as she stared down at the lush, green grass. Her blue bush hat bore the school’s coat of arms on it, the hat fit nicely around her larger-than-everybody-else’s head. Unlike the other children, she wore no smile. She wore what most girls did though, a dress, a bush hat, and the standard black school shoes.
The grass on which she stood on was medium sized. A few strides from side would take you to the spiky bushes on one end, and flowers on the other. Many bugs resided in the plants; she didn’t like that. Other than that, it was a nice place where she could relax.
She seemed to be intrigued with her worn out shoelaces. If she had looked ahead of her, instead of down, she would have seen the curved steel roof of the huge cola that sheltered many students from the sun. Next to it stood a tall tree whose thin branches rested on the roof.
She would have seen dozens and dozens of long metal seats that were stuck down to the steep cement steps that led to the cola’s cool cement ground. The metal seats were undoubtedly gathering heat from the sun, which was why the area was devoid of talkative students.
Behind her was the play equipment. The children would come here to climb on the equipment, doing back flips and alike on metal poles. There was a tall spider web next to it, it was made of rope and was tied to the tall red poles that made it hang high in the air. The ends of the rope looked worn out, clear evidence that the students had been playing with it. There was dirt in the crevices of the tough rope and the hairs of the rope poked out.
At the moment, the play equipment was deserted.
The sky was cloudy, but the sun penetrated through the clouds anyway. Sweat rolled down her nose and glistened as it hung on the tip of her nose, before falling off and landing onto the fabric of her dress.
She took her hat off and smoothed her hair down. The hat fell to her back and stayed there as the long string caught at her neck. She wiped some more sweat that was making her hair stick to the back of her neck. It was unpleasant to her.
The girl had Asian features; her skinned was slightly more tanned than usual due to the Australian sun. Her lips pale and she had small traces of dark lines under her eyes. She was no longer smiling but overall, she was what most people would call “pretty”.
There was a sudden sound of movement from the bushes and she felt the string of her hat tightening.
Her heart started beating rapidly as adrenaline entered her bloodstream. Tears blurred her vision as she pull forwards using her body; her arms stopped functioning. She sobbed and screamed, but there was no response from her nonexistent saviour.
Acting on instinct, she continued pushed forwards. Her conscious and her body weren’t in sync anymore. Using her thighs and legs, she moved forward a little, which only made the string tighten around her neck.
She knew who it was. This boy had always seemed to hate her. He had hurt her before. He was ugly. He was ugly in every single way. To her, she was the prey; he was the predator. She didn’t like it. She didn’t like it.
I don’t like it.
Finally, the string of the bush hat broke apart and, she didn’t know why, but she snatched her hat back and ran at full speed, away from the predator.
Tears mixed with sweat shone on her face in the sunlight. Her heart was still beating in fear. Her feet were still hitting the ground and pushing her forwards. She kept on looking forward, even through the tears.
