Chapter 1
The Reuben Twins
It’s been a long day for a certain girl, standing 5’6 in height, with long dark hair and pale complexion; she dressed rather oddly for the city, invisible in a sea of people, but not to one. She was lost, turning about, sitting, standing up again, and checking her clock ominously. It’s been a routine for several hours now, and it was torture just to watch her, for all, but for one. Of all the places to be lost at, she found her self in a place that no one wants to find.
“Little girl got lost in the big city. Tsk tsk,.”
Van chuckled, shaking his head; he’s been looking out the window for several minutes now; finally, he spoke his mind. Beau knew this was coming. Van may say one thing, but Beau read him like a book. Something about this girl caught his interest, a rather hard thing to imagine. Van was very precise in things, there was something about this girl that enticed him even, an even harder thing to imagine.
Sipping tea, Beau turned to him and replies “Interesting. What’s the plan?” Beau is a rather shorter more mature version of Van, his twin brother. They both share pale complexions, so much so that rumors about them being vampires spread. Not only did they fit the description, but also looked the part. There Russian heritage didn’t help so much so, it was always easier to play along rather than to cause anymore trouble than there already is.
He observed Van lost in a trans, he was still staring at the girl that he blocked the world from getting to him, sipping tea once more, a small smile formed from Beau’s lips, his brother cant even hear him, this girl was worth his time after all.
Beau got all the proof he needed, convinced, he closed the book and removed his eyeglass, placed the book over the desk and the eyeglass on top of it. He stood up and walked slow, moving closer to his brother, behind Van he stood and places his arms around Van’s waist from behind.
“You found a new play thing, im rather Jealous.”
Van still had his eyes set on her, like a prisoner of the night who can only see the moon from the crack, he wanted to see her, but could only look from this distance. Beau’s arms acted like chains around him, pulling him back in the world that the two of them built, where one of them was them, and the one that’s not them is the other.
Van smiled, feeling Beau’s arms around him, reminding him of this world. He made up his mind, eyes staring off a distance, with a serious voice he spoke, low and deep.
“Let’s play with her.”
He said it in a manner that was so cold, that it almost gave Beau the chills. They haven’t done anything like this for so long that it almost felt wrong to suddenly start doing this again. “But mother would be mad at us.” In a sad tone, Beau replied, looking down over the innocent looking girl which would later become there prey, he held Van’s hand and locked it with his, kissing it. “But Mother’s not here.” Van reminded. “We killed her, remember?”
Beau like Van was in a trans, he just hugged his brother in silence, a small smile found in both there faces, understanding what the other thinks even without speaking.
-----------
“Dear Nico
It’s rather cold here in the city, I forgot the jacket you gave me, it’s really fluffed, out fashioned, but really warm, and it’s everything I need right now. I’ve been waiting for Jo to pick me up, but I think I ended up somewhere really strange, I think im lost. The phone signal is down, and everyone is so unfriendly and the cab fares are ridiculous. I wish you were here with me, it would be better with you, this is our dream after all”
-----------
Sighing, she closed her journal, only realizing that people have diminished, she didn’t know if it was only her imagination, but she hasn’t seen a person for hours now, the area was isolated, ruined mansions, defaced statues, pools without ladders and flickering street lights. To top it all of, a rather creepy high walled mansion stood before her, it appears that someone lives there, but they all looked the same to her, shrugging, she tried to dismiss the thought of paranormal things with a question.
‘What time is It anyway?’
In a force of habit, she checked her watch. Odd enough, it’s still 8 O’clock, last she checked it was also 8, which could only mean one thing.
“Not again.”
She sulked, what else could make her day worst than it already has? She knew her clock moved slowly, she’s been observing it the whole day after all, the arms were weak, she really has no idea what time is it right now, and her phone died hours earlier.
Was she really doomed to be a homeless person in the city? She checked her pockets in paranoia of not having enough money; she took her wallet and counted. “Hmm, 70… 200… How many days.” She didn’t know what to do, Jo will really have an earful when they meet.
Sighing to her self, she didn’t almost realize two guys towering in front of her, both good looking in there own way, but something was odd about there presence before her, she turned to them, showing her face. “Sorry, did I do anything wrong?” They didn’t look like night watchers or anything, but she felt at wrong with them suddenly appearing.
The two of them had the same face, too identical that it’s almost scary. She backed away a bit, too obvious that it’s awkward.
They were in front of her, seemingly observing her closely. “Are you sure you wanna do this?” the shorter one wanted to confirm things with the taller one before doing his thing. The taller one just nodded, looking a bit shy. “Hey, you’re not from around here, are you?”
Feeling more and more danger headed her way she wanted to run from this strangers, but felt powerless to do so, the strangers voice was so commanding that it rendered her helpless, she gave a light nod.
“I knew that.” Beau bragged mockingly,
“Do you know what that qualifies you for?”
Beau asked, so serious that it can easily be misinterpreted. She replied with her first thought.
“Uhm.. an idiot?”
No longer being able to hold his laughter, Van started laughing, she actually said it, but Beau turned to him asking him to behave.
“Not really, that qualifies you to be our guest. But yes, I think you are an idiot, you look so lost that it’s almost a pity to look at you. How long have you been waiting out here for?”
She started counting with her fingers, something which made Beau sigh and Van bursting into Laughter.
“Don’t count with your fingers…”
Beau sighed, placing his right hand over his forehead, easing himself from all this nonsense before attempting to fold her hand, but sopped in the motion of doing so, reminding him of there purpose.
“We are the Reuben Twins, under the circumstances, you no longer have a choice, no one in this city will help you, except for us.”
Beau explained, making the girl even more confused.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“You’re in front of our mansion. No one takes nice long happy strolls in these parts, of all the places, seriously, why do you have to end up in front of our place?”
Beau knew she knew nothing about the rumors about them, but of all places, she ends up at the Reuben Mannor.
“Now now” Van interrupted feeling that Beau was being a bit rude to there soon to be guest. “Why don’t you stay in our mansion for the night, im sure by tomorrow we can bring you back to the city.”
Something was odd about there invitation, it felt more like a threat rather than anything else, but she felt like she had no choice in it, like what the shorter twin said. “I guess… if you don’t mind.” She scratched her head making a fool out of her self again. this made Beau sigh and Van laugh.
The gate opened on it’s self without the help of anything, this was the first time she’s seen anything like this, from where she came from, everything has to be done manually, the city really is different from anything she’s imagined, but still, she couldn’t help the thought of thinking that this was not common in the city, this technology or paranormal happening, the gates neither looked mechanically operated nor modern, she just dismissed the thought out of her brain, marching in like any normal person would. But with her robotic marching, it was hard not to catch the twins attention. “Are you sure we did the right thing?” Beau asked steps behind the girl beside his brother, they followed her lead the way, strangely. “I like her, she’s funny” Van smiled begging Beau to somewhat give the girl a chance. Beau sighed once more and spoke. “I dunno, I don’t feel safe around her, plus, there’s one other thing.” There was a moment of silence between them, it seems there path of thought met the same track. “I know, lets just hide her from him, its just one night.”
They entered the manor with servants greeting them piled up in two lines paralleled with each other. “Welcome back, Young masters” They bowed to them and to the girl who even walked in first. The feeling they gave off towards the masters were like greetings for royalty, something which greatly disturbed the girl, just who the heck were this people, and why was she here, she still had no idea, it was like a spell was set on her.
Beau whispered something to the head butler and spoke to the girl. “Im Beau by the way, if you need anything, just ask for me or my brother.” He explained as Van joined in. “He’s Beau and I’m Van, together were the Reuben twins, don’t forget our names and who we are okay?” The girl was stumped, they were adorable together, but telling them apart would be hard without realizing there height difference. “It would be easier if one of you had a different hair color” she laughed, attempting to make a joke, but it made the two look at each other. “We never thought of that.” They said simultaneously. She smiled at them, already realizing how rude she’s been. “Oh, Im Leila by the way, Leila Simmons, a pleasure to meet you.”
As she went her way towards her room, the twins stood staring at her shadow disappear from the dark manor, Van spoke. “I like her” he said, Beau just gazed over his brother. “Can I keep her?” This was what concerned Beau. “Even if I allow you, he wont, not after what happened before, you know this people.” Beau reminded, but he knew he couldn’t change Van’s mind even if he wanted, those eyes were the same as before, the time when there mother left the manor. “She’s different… you’ll see.”
Hope it makes sense @.@
