Back To The Beginings

Rukongai district 84, on the outskirts in the woods lies a bandits camp site. Normally the voracious sounds of them cheering and celebrating after another successful raid on the nearby defencless settlements echoes throughout the woods. However today there is nothing but silence. A lone man garbed in blood stained rags weilding a sword also drenched blood stands amongst a pile of sliced and cut up corpses. He stands there alone, breathing steadily as he looks in a single direction for what seems like an age, brushing back his long unkempt hair with his free hair he begins to leave this now graveyard.
"What a waste of my time..." He grumbles to himself in a cold heartless sort of voice. It is the future 6th Divison Captain and Vizard Hanzo Mifune but for now he is nothing more than a wandering soul., with no real direction or purpose in life or in this case his after life.

A little girl that looks about the age of 9 runs deep into district 84 passing the bandits camp site. She had no shoes and just wore an old yukata with a hakama that went up to her knees. She was being chased by a man much larger than her wielding a butchers knife. When just about to disappear into the dark she tripped on a root of a large tree. Covering her face she screamed.

Hanzo's eyes glance at the young girl running away from the large man weilding the butchers knife. In an instant he jumps at him and slices him up with a quick flick of his blade as the girl screams in terror.

"Disgusting..." he sighs as he wipes the blood off his rusty blade with his sleeve "Hey are you alright child?"

She looks up at the man and nods. "Thanks, are you a shinigami?" She says pointing at he's sword with a smiling face even though she could have died just now.

"I have no interest in those people" He looks down on her with an emotionless expression on his face "They disregard these poor innocent souls who end up in this place, brush them aside as if they were dirt, someone needs to protect these people"

Putting his hand out to help her up he tries to smile but its obviously a forced one "Whats your name child?"

She takes the hand and gets up and brushs the dirt of her clothes, "Don't have one, most people call me a pest but that name doesn't sound very nice. What about you mister you have a name?"

"A pest eh?" Hanzo holds his sword in front of her face and grins evily "If your causing trouble for the people round here i may have to cut you up right here"

Quickly relising his sense of humor may be a bit rusty after all these years alone he coughs and puts away his blade

"My name is Hanzo, nameless child, do you have a home to go back to?"

"Nice to meet Hanzo-san" She slowely walks over to the dead body and looks at it, "a home? nah, that's for rich folk, I'm not rich so I sleep here and there." Her face looks lonely but not exactly sad.

Thinking to himself for a moment Hanzo sighs as he walks up to her and puts his hand on her shoulder

"Get away from that..."

He looks at her and sighs

"What am i going to do with you? I can't just abandon you in this dog eat dog district"

"Around here yeah it's kill or be killed, where are you gonna go mister?" She asked looking up at him with curious eyes

"I'm going to just do what i've always done since i got here, travel, help the weak and defenceless, as i did in life i shall do so in my after life..."

Smiling a real smile for the first time in a long time "Want to come with kid?"

She smiled brightly, "really?! I'd loved to travel, being stuck here is always boring"

"Come on then lets get out of this place"

"Say we're going to have to think of a name for you... anything you like the sound of in particular?"

"I don't know many names, and the ones I do know are ugly" She says sticking her tongue out woth a grossed expresssion

"Eh... that could be a problem...ah well kid will do for now i suppose..." Hanzo mumbles as he looks at her "You going to be ok with a lot of walking? You don't look very strong"

"A lot of walking? Sure I'm okay with that, I just ran barefoot, walking shouldn't be that hard" She smiled brightly at him.

She bent down took out a flower and placed it on the body. "Let's go before some others show up"

-Continuing on his never ending quest of upholding the peace in Soul Society with his new nameless companion they travel a seemingly never ending journey-

Nearing the outskirts of a small settlement Hanzo finally places his sword in the ground and slumps next to a tree in the woods. "We set up camp here tonight alright kid? How are you holding up?"

She falls face forward and puts a thumbs up in the air.
"Just fine....." She drops her hand on the ground and doesn't move

Prodding her with the hilt of his sword Hanzo smirks and lets out a loud yawn.

"Do you feel it too? That empty feeling in your stomach sometimes?"

She she shifts her head a bit into a nod. "Yeah I feel it. How long have we been walking?"

She slowely sits up

"I'm sorry if we walked too far for you to handle, im used to travelling long distances alone its nice to have the company, i'll try not to kill you off too soon"

He smiles as he clutches his stomach

"It used to be easier but now the more i walk and fight the hungrier i get, how about you kid?"

"I'm always hungry. I'll go look for some fruits or something. I think I saw something back there. I'll be right back"

*She slowely stands up and walk towards some bushes a couple yards away *

"Alright then" Hanzo says with one eye open as he notices a rustling in the bushes a few feet away from them.

He quickly draws his sword and jumps into the shrubbery as she goes off to collect the fruit.

*She walks to the bushes and notices there are raseberries on them and smile*

"YAY~ Something to eat!" *She starts picking a few of them*

Returning back covered in blood and brusies Hanzo laughs evily as he carries a dead wild boar over his shoulder

"Finally something to eat!"
