Nivek Matsuoka
"May the gods fear me, as I love the name of honor more than I fear death."
Basic Information:
Name: Nivek Matsuoka Age: Four Hundred and Thirty-Seven Age Appearance: Seventeen Gender: Male Affiliation: Soul Society, Gotei 13 Character Alignment: Lawful Good Division: 13th Rank: Captain* Appearance: It can be said that Nivek is the physical embodiment of abnormality. For reasons that cannot be logically explained, after his death the boy acquired a fine point to the tip of either ear, as well as sharp, gagged teeth. Though his chompers are not as noticeable unless examined closely, yet prominent canines can be clearly seen from a distance. Along with these clearly visible abnomalities, Nivek also possesses a black tail which he keeps wrapped around his torso under his clothing as he is a bit ashamed of it. Messy, navy blue hair contrasts his pale white skin and sweeps down in his eyes. Nivek stands at a confident five foot, eight inches and weighs approximately one hundred and thirty pounds.
If his unique physical traits were not enough, Nivek refused to abide by the Academy's dress code; choosing to don the red, more feminine kosode rather than the blue issued to the males. This slight need for uniqueness carried on after he became Captain. Nivek dons a black shitagi, white kosode and hakama under a white haori, which is the inverse of a typical Captain. Inside his haori is outlined with a thing, royal blue stripe to add a bit of flair to his outfit. This causes him to stand out considerably from not only his peers, but the entirety of his division as well. Nivek can also be seen wearing a stereotypical high school uniform that consists of a white shirt, a loose necktie, a black jacket, and black pants whilst in his Gigai in the human world.
Also while in the Soul Society and while doing recon in the world of the living, Nivek can be seen with his bangs pinned back, as to not distract him during his daily duties. He also carries Jigoku with him at all times, its sheath usually wrapped in red sleeve over his back and shoulder with a black strap.
Personality: During his days in the world of the Living, Nivek was not unlike the average boy. He loved, laughed, threw tantrums on occasion, and even cried, but to say he soured after death would be a vast understatement. Before his induction into the Gotei 13, the boy's life in the soul society lacked what he liked to refer to as a purpose. He did not socialize with the other children, nor did he spend any time in the company of others. He was a hermit, secluded from his adopted family, speaking only when spoken to, and very much so detached from any sort of emotion. Children would tease him, beat him, and even throw stones at him all because he did not fit in. Soon his tolerance for such an act of cruelty was too much for Nivek to handle, and his rage finally broke through all the walls he had built to protect himself in this strange world. Only after beating several children into a pulp, being bludgeoned with sticks by even larger children and he lay in a puddle of his own blood did Nivek realize his ambition to serve the very organization which had saved the remainder of his village from the vicious Hollow.
After joining the Gotei 13, not much changed in the boy, aside from a mighty sense of honor, virtue and integrity, he was still the same emotionally detached boy he was before, and aside from his rage which grew stronger every day, he finally feels at peace as he has found purpose.
Though his anger is what may be described as Nivek's major downfall, there is one exception to his wrath. For reasons that even he does not fully understand, it is extremely difficult for the boy to participate in combat against a woman. This does not mean he is incapable of doing so, merely that he prefers not to, perhaps due to seeing his mother in them or possibly because he is simply a gentleman.
Your Legacy:
Character Story: W.I.P.
As a child in the world of the living, Nivek lost his mother in what appeared to be a random killing spree. Though due to the lack of... physical evidence from the victims, it was impossible to pinpoint just who or what was committing these atrocities. Ironically enough, the local villagers proclaimed that this was the work of a demon and many proposed a full scale exorcism, but since the murders were not solely confined to one space, the local priest announced such a feat would be impossible. Many villagers swore to have seen a terrible beast stalking their cattle off in the distance and sometimes in the corner of their eye late at night, but given a second glance, the beast vanished mysteriously.
Confused and frightened, many abandoned the region and the ones who stayed were labeled as insane or merely stupid. Not entirely convinced of the stories, Nivek's father who acted as a personal guard for the local Lord set out to investigate the beast's supposed territory himself. He did not return. Several weeks later, the entirety of the man's corpse was found strung out in an odd assortment in a large tree which stood at the center of their humble village. There were no bite marks and all of his internal organs were present, so it seemed that whoever took up refuge in the Forbidden Forest, a favorite nickname of what was known as the beast's domain, was sending them a message. Yet, after this act of horrendous violence, the killings stopped.
In reality, far preceding the murders, the local disappearances were the work of a Demi-Hollow. Angry and confused, he slaughtered all that stepped foot in his forest. Later, after his progression into a full fledged Adjuchas, he began to feed off the lost souls of the recently dead and in desperate times took the life of whoever wandered too close to his territory. He did not refer to himself by any name, either due to a lack of memory or for personal amusement, he merely mocked the villages by calling himself The Beast.
Several years later, during Nivek's coming to age celebration, the Hollow struck again. Instead of isolated attacks on a single individual, the monster stampeded through the village, demolishing practically anything in its path. What was most terrifying about this experience, is that Nivek alone was able to see the beast in its entirety. He stood among the wreckage, awestruck as his friends were ripped limb from limb, the blood of his village splattered to and fro, soaking him in its foul stench of horrid death. Taking quick notice of the boy's eyes on him, the Hollow became unsettled and let out a deafening shriek before lunging himself toward the boy. Falling back onto splintered wood, Nivek brought his arms up to protect himself, but just as the Hollow came within striking distance a mysterious figure appeared before it and deflected its attack.
The rest of this event was nothing but a blur to Nivek, as he soon fell unconscious due to the trauma and blood loss he was suffering. Coming to later on, the stranger knelt before him with a grim look upon her face. Looking down, the boy grasped a chain which protruded from his chest, and as he ran his fingers along it he took note of how it had been severed a few links down. His eyes then drifted to the ground, a few feet away where the chain continued to what appeared to be a boy's corpse. His eyes widened and his lip trembled as he was made aware that the boy was him, and as he stared at the splintered pole which had penetrated his own chest he let out a choked cry. A soft apology could be heard muttered from the stranger's lips and just as Nivek was about to bombard her with questions, she stamped his forehead with the bottom of her hilt and he soon found himself in a deep sleep. Later he awoke among other lost souls in a place he would learn to call the Soul Society.
Upon his rebirth, it was clear that the boy was nothing like the other mundane souls that occupied the Soul Society and he quickly took an interest in joining the Gotei 13. For starters, the boy had a remarkably unstable reiryoku, which became apparent during Kido training in his time spent at the academy. Even simple spells packed a great punch, but lacked in accuracy due to Nivek's inability to control his great spiritual energy. This later became an issue when his reiatsu took physical manifestation and would burn whatever was in close proximity to the boy, most embarrassing of all... his clothing. However, though it made it significantly harder for the boy to keep up with his classmates, this issue seemed to sort itself out after Nivek discovered the name of his Zanpakuto. At least while it remained in its sealed state.
Ridiculed by his peers for his unique outward appearance, short temper, and otherwise detached personality, it was only natural for the boy to find a home in the 13th Division of the Gotei 13 as he simply did not fit in anywhere else. Not long after being assigned to this Division, Nivek rose to the prestigious rank of Vice Captain, though his ambition aimed for a more suitable position.
Upon the death of his predecessor, the boy was forced to step-up as acting Captain until which time the other Captains found a more suitable replacement. During his time as acting Captain, Nivek proved his worth to the entirety of the Gotei 13 and they eventually awarded him the title of 13th Division Captain.
RP Sample:
Today Nivek, a Shinigami-to-be, sat just outside the Zanjutsu Training Hall, picking away at the dried blood on the lapel of his kosode. The boy was quite young in appearance, as he wore a face that was no more than sixteen years of age, though his eyes proved contrary to this. They were heavy with burden and the years he had lived, yet today at this very moment, they burned with fiery passion. Once again, he had been bested in the sparing circle by a peer due to a small error on his part. Nivek tended to over think the situation during combat, spending far too much time trying to predict his opponents moves rather than making any offensive progress of his own.
As he continuously ran the scenario through his head, a slight anger burned deep within him, his right fist clenching tight around the scabbard of his nameless Zanpakuto. Step right, swing left, miss.. duck, swing right, block right, duck. He recited each move over and over again, gritting his teeth, enraged by his stupidity, a small film of blue reiatsu forming around his right fist as he did so. Taking notice to this lack of control, he took a deep breath, closing his eyes and centered himself. The reiatsu around his fist quickly fading into nothingness. It had taken some time for Nivek to learn just how to control his spiritual pressure, and even now it seemed to leak out whenever he was unbalanced, which had caused several issues in the past.
Opening his eyes once more, Nivek peered over to the main Academy building, letting out a light sigh. Hundreds upon thousands of notable figures had walked through these very halls, studying the same techniques and materials still being taught today, and even so, no two were remotely the same. That was always something that astonished Nivek the most, as he took pride in being unique from his peers. On the other hand, being unique can also make you a target, as he knew too well... then again, he did go out of his way to do this, so perhaps it was his own fault he was occasionally teased by others? Even so, he did not mind, and as he pondered this the image of his mother's soft smile became prominent in his mind.
This same smile found its way onto the boy's lips as his gaze drifted away with the breeze, catching site of a soft, yellow butterfly fluttering up toward the sky. Just like that, the anger he had felt building inside was nonexistent and he returned to his mildly cheerful self. Taking in the sites around him, the fresh air, and the warm sun shinning down upon his pale skin. Suddenly, the door to the Training Hall creaked open and the sound of soft footsteps patted down the steps behind him. Nivek froze momentarily, his breath caught in his lungs as he awaited some sort of raspy scolding from his Instructor, yet no voice spoke, and silence fell around him.
Powers & Abilities:
{To be able to use technique, Shikai and Bankai, knowledge and know how must be acquired in-game)
Zanpakutō: Zanpakuto Spirit Description: When Nivek ventured into his Zanpakutō's inner world to make contact with the spirit which dwelled inside it, he met a curious looking man with odd looking horns atop his forehead, a pair of fluffy ears, and two tails that flowed out of his lower back as if they had minds of their own. Making the mistake of referring to this stranger as "mittens" in an attempt to poke fun of his cat-like appearance, the boy experienced the spirit's rage for the very first time. Only by matching the stranger's rage in furious hand-to-hand combat was respect gained and the privilege to know the stranger's name rewarded without a hint of reluctance.
- Jigoku; Humanoid Form:
Jigoku's spirit is unbelievably temperamental in essence, and its physical appearance changes drastically in size depending on its state of mind, though after Nivek's initial encounter of the spirit, Jigoku always takes the form of an odd looking cat with horns identical to that of the man's and two tails as well. Despite taking the form of an animal, Jigoku is incredibly self-aware and intelligent, keeping in near-constant contact with Nivek, though the conversations between the two can rarely be heard. Many who have witnessed Nivek in battle have testified that not only is Jigoku the boy's greatest ally, but equally his worst enemy due to its extremely volatile personality. Whenever visible, Jigoku is almost always perched upon Nivek's shoulder in order to have a greater vantage point than he would on the ground.
- Jigoku; Cat Form:
Zanpakutō Name: Jigoku (Literal Translation; "Hell") Inner World: Jigoku's inner world is an exact replica of Nivek's village after his death, left in a ruin after the Hollow's rampage. Like every inner world known to the Shinigami, only the soul of the Zanpakuto and the wielder can enter this plane, but the skeletal remains of what Nivek has guessed to be his family and friends are scattered about the village. When the boy first entered Jigoku's realm he was found standing at the base of the large tree which stood in the center of the village, Nivek's father's remains still strung about its branches looking and smelling as they did the day they were originally found. The spirit stood by as his partner examined the scene with an amused smirk upon his lips as he expected the boy to break, but was eventually disappointed.
- Jigoku; Inner World:
Sealed Appearance: Jigoku is a katana styled sword that is housed in a royal blue saya (scabbard) with a silver cap and bands. The sageo cord is a pale green, the same color as the cord that hangs from the kashira (buttcap), though this cord is held together near the end by a darker green bead. Bellow the silver, somewhat diamond shaped tsuba (guard) is tsuka (handle) wrapped in a cloth of similar color to the sheath, long enough to grip with both hands. The color of the blade is assumed to be silver, though it's difficult to tell once drawn.
- Jigoku; Sealed Form:
Shikai Name: Jigoku No Hi (Literal Translation; "Hellfire") Shikai Release Phrase: Jigoku No Hi, Ignite with Glorious Passion. Released Appearance: This Zanpakuto does not alter in appearance from its sealed form, aside from the fact that once it is drawn, bright azure blue flames erupt from where the blade meets the guard. These flames are so intense that it causes weaker individuals to shield their eyes from it.
- Jigoku; Shikai Form:
Shikai Special Ability: While Jigoku emits an alarming amount of reiatsu in the form of flames from the base of the blade (possibly blinding its opponent for a short time, depending on the gap in spiritual pressure) it also locks onto a target specified subconsciously by Nivek. The flames surround and encase this target (or however many individuals listed) and Nivek himself in a raging spherical barrier, isolating them from the rest of the world until commanded by Nivek to return to the blade. This sphere has a max diameter of two kilometers, depending on the amount of targets specified. The flames erupting from Jigoku do not vanish once the barrier forms, they continue to burn until the blade is sheathed and returned to its sealed form.
- Bankai; Not Yet Achieved:
Bankai Name: Jigoku Anrīshudo (Literal Translation; "Hell Unleashed") Bankai Release Phrase: Jigoku Anrīshudo, Engulf in Azure Flame. Released Appearance: Jigoku's appearance does not change in the slightest, aside from its physical reiatsu combining with Nivek's, causing the flames to spread onto the boy's entire body. At this level of release, Nivek no longer hides his tail, allowing it to protrude from the back of his hakama, acting as another limp. Flaming horns protrude from the top of his forehead as his ears and fangs elongate. Bankai Special Ability: Upon release, Nivek's consciousness melds with that of his Zanpakuto, making him unpredictable and unbelievably bloodthirsty. Aside from this quirk, Jigoku absorbs the massive reiatsu it uses to create Hellfire Prison to boost Nivek's other physical attributes such as speed, strength, and agility. Prolonged use of Jigoku's Bankai places severe stress on Nivek's body, burning his flesh and impeding his ability to regenerate some time after his Zanpakuto is once again sealed.
Abilities
Name: Bureijingu Ame (ブレイジング雨, Blazing Rain) State: Shikai Terms of Usage:This technique can only be used once Nivek and his opponent(s) are secluded in the flaming barrier produced by his Shikai. Description: By pointing his Zanpakuto at a target and simply willing it, what appear to be small droplets of rain "fall" from every angle of the spherical prism toward the specified point. Once these droplets make contact with their target, they detonate in small, but powerful bursts. Downside: If Nivek were to be forced into the designated area, he too would be injured by the explosions, though not as much as the intended target.
Name: Kokuyōseki Shīrudo (黒曜石 シールド, Obsidian Shield) State: All Terms of Usage:This ability requires one post to charge before gaining full effect. This means that by the time an opponent is in striking distance, the ability may already have been solidified. Description: Nivek concentrates a decent amount of reiatsu over a specific part of his body, causing the flames to intensify to such a point that they turn to molten lava. This magma is then deprived of reiatsu, forcing it to cool rapidly and form into a dense plate of armor able to withstand a blow from a Zanpakuto in its Shikai form. Downside: The attention required to focus this ability may leave Nivek open to a secondary strike coming from another direction.
Name: Kokuyōseki Ken (黒曜石拳, Obsidian Fist) State: All Terms of Usage:This ability requires one post to charge before gaining full effect. This means that by the time an opponent is in striking distance, the ability may already have been solidified. Description: This ability is merely the offensive spin off of the latter; Kokuyōseki Shīrudo. By concentrating reiatsu around his fist (or whatever limb he chooses to strike with) and then suddenly depriving it of said reiatsu, the obsidian-like plating allows him to deal more powerful blows, breaking bones and rupturing internal organs with a strike that may have only bruised muscle. Downside: The attention required to focus this ability may leave Nivek open to a secondary strike coming from another direction.
Name: Jigoku no Arashi (地獄の嵐, Hell Storm) State: Shikai (Later Bankai) Terms of Usage: This ability requires a blood sacrifice, in a way, and has no charge time post wise. Description: By slicing his palm/finger with Jigoku, Nivek coats the blade with his own reiatsu, giving it a faint purple glow. Thrusting the sword outward, no matter which direction, causes the flames that surround it to triple in size, though they are far more unstable than the ones before. Nivek is now able to launch these flames, which are nothing more than compressed reiatsu, as projectiles toward his opponent by either slashing or thrusting toward them, similar to Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshō. If Bankai has been released, this ability can use any blood sacrifice. For example, if Nivek draws blood from an opponent stronger than himself, it will make this ability significantly more powerful. Downside: The terms of usage for this ability are designed to weaken Nivek, as it demands a blood sacrifice.
(Bankai and more abilities will come as I develop this character.)
