Personality: Alone, Alyssa is usually quiet and withdrawn, unless there's a hollow nearby of course. She prefers the company of her own mind or Leon's excluding a few close friends. Upon first meeting, one gets the impression that she is a quiet, shy intellectual girl that prefers books to humans and on one side they would be right. But stick around long enough for her to relax, it will be shown that she can get quite rambunctious and has a great love of video games, anime and computers.
Appearance: Alyssa is of average build with lean muscle, and is a bit on the short side at 5'3". She has brown hair that comes down to her chest and usually tied back into two loose twin tails accompanied by a headband. Her forest hued eyes are usually hidden behind plastic frame glasses, without which she would barely be able to see. She is most comfortable wearing simple jeans and a T-shirt, but more often wears her university's uniform, a plain white button up shirt and green tie and red plaid skirt over black tights. Alyssa was born into the Hawkins family, which was a long standing line of Quincy that passed from daughter to daughter usually, though there were a few exceptions. Most of the time, the women married other Quincy, for honesty sake as well as not wanting to put a loved one in danger that couldn't protect themselves. The Hawkins in particular held Quincy philosophies in high regard and despised Soul Reapers and Hollows almost equally.
From a young age, Alyssa was trained to be a Quincy without even thinking about it. It was natural to see strange black and white monsters with masks and that her family fought and killed them. It wasn't until she was halfway through elementary school that she began to realize that her family was quite different from her classmates'. She was given a toy bow and arrow set at a young age and excelled at hitting her 'targets', namely her parents and grandparents to which they reacted with a mix of pride and annoyance. Occasionally she saw people dressed in black robes wielding swords fight the masked monsters too, but was quickly taught that they were their enemies as well. It wasn't until later that she was told why that was. And with this increased knowledge, she was also taught how to defend her family and the human world through her Quincy powers.
Her mother was her main teacher and a hard task master, never accepting anything less than perfection. Often her grandmother who had stepped down from being head of the family attempted to talk her daughter into easing up on the training, but Tabitha Hawkins would not allow it. The head of the Hawkins family blamed her daughter's late night reading for her failing eyesight and need to wear glasses and forced her to practice her archery for hours in attempt to perfect her aim with her new glasses. At school, Alyssa developed an interest in reading and writing and spent much of her free time in the school's library, even founding Book Club which she headed as President. The teen aspired to become an author or maybe just a librarian. But when her mother discovered that she was reading 'silly books' and focusing her attention more on school and her friends rather than her training and chores as a Quincy, there was harsh punishment where she was grounded from visiting her friends or attending after school activities and even had her books taken away from her. She was molded by force to be a perfect example of a young Quincy. But at the expense of her heart and mind, which were shriveling from lack of attention.
One day, a short time after she had completed high school and assumed full Quincy responsibilities, she encountered a person that also saw the Hollows and Soul Reapers, but wasn't either of the two or even a Quincy. He was just normal. And soon, they became best friends. He introduced her back into normal life and more importantly, the internet. Her family had a computer at home but she had only used it to type up papers for school. With her new friend, Javier, she renewed her passion for writing and learned to role play on forums.
On the first forum she joined, she encountered a person with the username 'Leon' and after time became friends with him and after a longer amount of time, developed a crush which she never spoke a word of or even typed. She did allow herself to become close to him though and even exchanged phone numbers, talking with him about all sorts of things, venting about her home life and interests and listening to his as well. It was around then that Leon confessed that he loved her and Alyssa was too shocked to believe him. She had kept her feelings for him buried for so long, she wasn't sure how to respond. In an effort to buy time, she told him that she needed time to think about what he had said and took a break from...everything for two days to sort out her own heart and mind. She enjoyed their conversations so much that they were often the highlight of her days and the only thing she had to look forward to other than her visits with Javier. But Javier didn't make her feel like Leon did. She didn't fully realize this until she was chatting with him on the third night and realized her answer.
She explained that he made her feel like she was on fire riding a rollercoaster that was doing loopty loops and afterwards she just wanted to run out into the streets butt naked screaming out the confession that she loved him. He didn't make her feel that way just because he loved her or that he was nice to her or listened to her...but because he was him. She couldn't love anyone else and she couldn't not love him.
From there, their relationship escalated to video chats and constant phone calls and texting. She was able to keep her family from finding out because she always left the house to 'patrol' when she wanted to talk with him, but after a short while, she didn't have to because her parents and little brother moved out of country to aid the Quincy's European branch where her father hailed from. So she lived with her grandparents and was open to them about her relationship. They didn't necessarily approve but they certainly didn't protest and Alyssa took this as a good sign. When she asked if Leon could spend Christmas holiday at their house, they agreed, eager to meet the man that their granddaughter was so smitten with. However her mother was still blissfully unawares in Europe.
When Leon first arrived, all Alyssa could do was stare at him with a grin that made her cheeks hurt, holding his hand tightly. Their first night together was unforgettable and for two weeks they hardly left each others side.
